Holy cow! Time flies when you're working 60-70 hours a week!
We're getting ready for the holidays!
Meegan has a TON of family coming to town for Thanksgiving... 47 uncles and cousins and nieces and nephews and.... you get the picture! We're delighted to be a part of a big holiday scene!
I just bought a 20lb turkey that Meegan thinks is too big. I think we'll all be gnawing bones... I'm brining the turkey, which I've done for the last 3 years, soaking it overnight in salted and seasoned water. I think I've finally mastered the art of cooking turkey, after over and under cooking it. Last year was hot, juicy, and decidedly NOT medium rare!

There will also be another turkey, this one "dipped" or deep-fried. I've had dipped bird before, and it really is amazing! The trick with deep-frying is to keep the temperature high, so the oil doesn't get into the bird... when done right it's crispy on the outside, and sooo juicy!

We're also very excited to be able to host an old, dear friend from Atlanta! Our friend, Angie, who was there from the very start of our relationship (she was rooming with Meegie when we met,) is coming to stay with us for a few days just after Christmas! We're looking forward to a lot of reminiscing, which will later turn into beating up on Don... har!

My mom will be flying down again this year for a late winter sabbatical from the frozen tundra of Minnesota. Global warming is still just a dream for Minnesotans. She tries REALLY hard to buy a dinner or two for us, but I have recipes that I must try, and it's just not fair to let her pay when I'M the one experimenting! We're looking forward to keeping her around for as long as she can ignore her houseplants and grandchildren!

I have to go clean, now. ugh.

Here we go!

So I'm new to this blogging stuff, but since I'm over 1000 miles away from half of my family...
I'm... er... WE're going to try to update this regularly.

I'm keeping up with my nephew Sam's Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy, and it's a real joy to be able to read up on the blog without having to bother my brother and his lovely wife with phone calls, when they have a LOT going on... so I'm jumping in to the blogpool.
